Guy Ford Willingham Sr., 76, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, December 1, 2019 after a battle with cancer.
Guy attended McCallie, graduated from Darlington and attended University of Chattanooga. He worked at Martin-Thompson Sporting Goods, Superior Olds Cadillac and operated Wilco Leasing prior to opening The Mattress Nook in 2012 with his wife NeeNah. Guy and NeeNah were members of the Lions Club of Dayton, with Guy serving as President in 2017.
Guy’s passion for the water lead to a life spent on the Tennessee River, with summer days on the boat with family, and evenings watching the sun set on the lake. Guy savored every moment and never got in a hurry. He was a friend to all and a stranger to none.
He is preceded in death by his parents, W. Jay Willingham and Mary McClure Willingham; brother, Jay McClure (Mickey) Willingham and sister, Mary Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, NeeNah Willingham; brother-in-law, Jim (Stud) Martin; children, Guy Ford Willingham Jr., Simonne (Kevin) Poff, Bill (Leigh) Lones; grandchildren, Sarah Willingham, Grayson, Aubri and Weston Poff, Hannah and Garret Lones and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Dayton on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 11:00am followed by an intimate graveside service at Forest Hills Cemetery for family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to Melanoma.org, CancerResearch.org, or The Dayton Lions Club. The best way to honor Guy is to prioritize your health and have an annual skin cancer screening.
