Katherine Elizabeth Howerton known to friends and family as “Kat Bird” , at age 90 went home to be with her trusted Lord and Savior Saturday, December 08, 2018 at Life Care Center of Rhea County.

“Kat Bird” was born July 16, 1928 in Dayton to the late Dewey and Sally Lou Gillespie. She lived in Dayton her entire life and was an active member of First Christian Community Church until her health declined. She attended Dayton High School and after leaving school she worked for Welches, Daytona, and Western Sizzlin’ and retired from Suburban Manufacturing.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Sally Lou Gillespie; husband, Cyrus F. Howerton; brothers, Charlie Gillespie and James Neal and sister, Mildred Gillespie Graham.

She leaves to mourn her death, her care givers; nephew, Robert (Jennifer) Gillespie and his family as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.

Service will be Friday, December 14, 2018 at 3:00pm in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Johnson officiating.

Family will receive friends Friday, December 14, 2018 from 2:00-3:00pm.

Interment will be at Dayton City Cemetery in Mountain View.
