Susan D. Columbus, 63, of Dayton and formerly of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, went to her Heavenly home on Friday, June 28, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Susan was born May 20, 1956 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the third of seven children to the late Thomas C. and Leona (Sheaffer) Columbus.
Susan was a 1974 graduate of Camp Hill High School in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. She attended the nursing program at Harrisburg Area Community College before achieving a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Susan was employed at the Unum Group for 17 years. She was a Senior Disability Benefits Specialist before retiring in August of 2017. Prior to Unum, Susan worked as a Certified Travel Agent. In her free time, Susan enjoyed traveling, reading, watching NASCAR, and spending time with her family and friends. Susan was an active member of St. Bridget Catholic Church where she proudly served in the women’s group, choir, and as secretary.
Susan is survived by six siblings, Thomas G. (Linda) Columbus, Joseph A. (Teresa) Columbus, James E. (Mary) Columbus, Christina M. Columbus, Allen L. (Margaret) Columbus, and William F. (Ronda) Columbus, as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews. Also surviving Susan is her gift from God, Wolfgang Eisen. Wolfgang has been a loving, supportive, and nurturing life partner, who stood alongside Susan through life’s highs and lows for 19 years. In addition, Susan is survived by Wolfgang’s children: Rosezella (Billy) Welch, Dedra (Bruce) Spradling, and Wesley Eisen.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 6:30pm with Fr. Samuel L. Sturm officiating at St. Bridget Catholic Church located at 320 Walnut Grove Church Road in Dayton, Tennessee. Visitation will be held from 5:30 until 6:30pm, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
