Alberta Ruth Tennyson

Alberta Ruth Tennyson, age 85, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. She was born in Sale Creek on August 11, 1940, to the late Hershel and Viola Burton.

She was a lifelong resident of the Sale Creek community and a faithful member of the Sale Creek Church of God. In addition to being a caring mother, she loved life to the fullest and especially enjoyed eating chicken.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Tommy Rivers; and her siblings, Billy Edward Burton, Billy Ray Burton, Loretta Burton, Hershel Burton, and George Burton.

She is survived by her husband, James, of 51 years; her children, Stanley Tennyson and Sheila Renee Tennyson; her sisters, Anita Burton Gibson and Leola “Oddie” Hindman; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Welsh-Rogers Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 6, 2026. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
