Mr. Cordell Yates, 79, a life-long resident of Rhea County, passed away at his residence on April 6, 2024. He was born May 2, 1944, to Harvey and Lucille Harris Yates. Cordell worked for DuPont in Chattanooga until his retirement. During his thirty-five years of employment with DuPont he advanced from garage worker, when he began at eighteen years of age to lab technician at his retirement. He was a man of faith and attended New Union Baptist Church.
Mr. Yates is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Lucille Harris Yates; sisters, Edna Mae Yates and Norma Jean Fraley; brother Bobby Ray Yates; brother-in-law, Lowell Perry; sister-in-law, Shirley Yates; and son-in-law, Keith Norton.
Cordell is survived by his daughter, Donna (John) Cottle; son, Randy (Fawn) Yates; two grandsons, Zack and Zane Norton; two sister, Joyce Perry and Ruth (Morgan) Cook; brother-in-law, Malcolm Fraley; and special friend Sandy Faile of Cleveland, TN
Cordell will be missed dearly by his family and friends as he was a kind and loving man to everyone.
Funeral service will be held at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home at 11AM Tuesday, April 9, 2024 with Dr. Danny Ruehling officiating. Burial will follow in Spence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8PM Monday, April 8 at the funeral home.
