Delma Houston Shaver, 88, of Dayton, TN, passed away at his home on November 3, 2023. He was a deacon of Salem Baptist Church. He worked for the Ford Dealership for over 40 years but had enjoyed many years of retirement since then. He served the community as a Dayton Lions Club president and member as well as many other organizations throughout the years. He loved gardening where he enjoyed sharing his crops with others. He loved the Vols and Eagle football and many will remember him cheering on his team. He held season tickets to the Eagles for over 40 years and was an usher at the TN Volunteers football for many years.
His is preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Geraldine Shaver. Also preceding him was his parents, Hud & Allie Shaver, his brother Olin Shaver, and sisters, Catherine Pegues, Mildred Raines, and Agnes Tollett.
He is survived by his seven children: Jacqueline (Mike) Breeden, Karen (Steve) Stinson, Delma Eugene (Barbara), Marcia, Barry (Alicia), Larry (Regina), and Stacey (Fred) Gates. Grandchildren: Meghan (Theron) Carter, Aaron (Maggie) Breeden, Alex (Amanda) Stinson, Meredith (Bradley) Qualls, Justin, Daniel (Lauren) Shaver, Tommy (Donna) Alnutt, Barbie (Ben) Roberts, Sheri Alnutt, Caleb Shaver, Kyle Shaver, Emily (Will) Kay, Matthew (Ashley) Shaver, Sydney Shaver, Daniele (Tyler) Wear, Kayla (Mitch) Mattix, Morgan Gates (Dan), and Elijah Gates (Cate). Great Grand Children: Kaylee, Hannah, and Emma Parker, Ansley Carter, Jace Breeden, David Stinson, Sullivan, Abbott and Iris Wear, Forrest and Westley Mattix, Logan, Lance, Luke, Lakin, Ava, and Michael Alnutt, Bradley Evans, Bailey Roberts, Joshua and Isabelle Ballard, and Kinsley Cranfield. Great-great grandchildren: Kristin & Nora Merrill. Siblings: Velma Farley, Huddy (Claudette) Shaver, Frances Marsh, Shirley Bishop, Troy (Barbara) Shaver, Vivian Prevatte, Tom (Kathy) Shaver, Lorene Jewell, Marvin (Debbie) Shaver, and Doris Ann (J.C.) Watson.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Justin, Aaron, Alex, Daniel, Caleb, Kyle, Matthew, Elijah and great-grandson Jace.
The family would like to thank his care team of Hearth Hospice: Katy, Jamica, and Chaplain Brent. As well as caregivers Linda and Crystal. They have taken amazing care of our dad and family during the last year and 11 months. We would also like to thank dad's sister Shirley for her devoted care of him.
Arrangements: Coulter Garrison Funeral home is taking care of the family. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8PM at Coulter Garrison. Monday visitation 11-1 at Salem Baptist Church, the funeral will at 1PM. Burial will be in the Second Shaver cemetery immediately to follow.
