Darrell Lyndon Sweet

Darrell Lyndon Sweet, 88, of Crossville, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord on June 22, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillie Katherine Cochran Sweet, and his daughters, Cynthia Elaine Tole (Timothy Martin Tole) and Leisa Katrina Willis (JohnDavid Willard Willis).

Darrell served in the United States Navy before launching a career as a radio personality at WBCK in Battle Creek, Michigan. He then went on to work at Suburban Manufacturing in Dayton, TN; Clark Equipment Co. in Battle Creek, MI; and retired from Whirlpool (formerly Maytag Maycor) in Cleveland, TN.

An avid University of Michigan football fan, he could often be heard belting out the “Michigan Fight Song” when he wasn’t singing in his church choir. His passion for golf was reflected in the amount of time he spent on the course. Whether clubbing the grass in the rough or mowing the greens at Lake Tansi Golf Course, Darrell’s love of the sport gave him a sacred place to enjoy God’s creation.Faith was the foundation of Darrell’s life, reflected in his quiet, steady example to family and friends, as well as his loud, exuberant renditions of choir songs (and sometimes even opera). As a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member, he served God with a genuine and unostentatious devotion.

Darrell loved to travel and visit his six grandchildren: Nathan Tole, Hannah Tole, Mary Kate Willis, Jackson Willis, Sarah Grace Willis, and Molly Cooper Willis. He is also survived by his brother, Lawrence Sweet, and his sister, Marion Parker.

As a lover of corny jokes with great punchlines, if Darrell were here, he would surely say, “I made my 9 a.m. tee time on Sunday. The course is heavenly!”

A funeral service will be held at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, with visitation prior from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Smith-Wilkey Cemetery.
