Dr. William "Bill" Casteel, III

Dr. William “Bill” French Casteel, III, age 72 died peacefully Saturday, July 15, 2023 in his home. Born in Burlington, North Carolina, Bill graduated from East Carolina University as a member of Phi Kappa Phi. In addition to his studies, Bill had the distinguished honor of leading the crowd as the school’s Pirate mascot. After his undergraduate degree was completed, he married Katrina and moved to Memphis to attend the Southern College of Optometry. As an optometrist in Dayton, Bill enjoyed getting to know and serving the people in his community for over 44 years. Bill was a music enthusiast, UT sports fan, and cherished beach trips with his family. He was a longtime member and a former board member of the Dayton Golf Club. He was a loving husband, father, and rockin’ grandpa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William French Casteel Jr. and Eva Lee Woodall Casteel. He is survived by his wife, Katrina Howell Casteel (his loving wife of 49 years), his children Christopher Casteel and wife Heather Pace Casteel, and David Casteel and wife Jamie Smith Casteel, grandchildren Asher Casteel, Boone Casteel, and Jasper Casteel, his sister Anne Casteel Calbaugh and husband Gary “Duck” Calbaugh and other family and friends.
