Buford Frank Scoggins, Jr. died at his home December 27, 2021 at the age of 95. He was a lifelong resident of Rhea County. He lived his final days on his farm that borders Chickamauga Lake. He was an avid angler and known by his grandchildren as Papaw Frank.
Frank was born in Chattanooga, TN, February 7, 1926. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen E. Griffin Scoggins; his parents, Buford Frank Scoggins, Sr. and Opal Grace Land Scoggins; and his sister, Betty Scoggins Ratchford.
He was a World War II veteran. He served in the US Navy starting at age 17. He owned Frank’s Railroad Salvage on Main Street, Dayton, TN. He worked as a railway postal clerk before retiring from the Dayton Post Office as Assistant Postmaster.
Frank is survived by five children, Kay Scoggins of Cleveland, TN; Bobby (Nila) Scoggins of Dayton, TN; Nelson (Buffie Bell) Scoggins of Dayton, TN; Darlene Glass of Spring City, TN; and Monty Wilson of Dayton, TN. Frank is also survived by nine grandchildren, Katrina DeRespiris, Christy Varner, Heath Scoggins, Abigail Walters, Ashley Varner, Jason Scoggins, Andrew Glass, Erin Castaneda, Elise Justice and sixteen great-grandchildren. The community is invited to attend the graveside service scheduled for 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Spence Cemetery in Dayton, TN with Pastors Darryl Smith and Logan Justice officiating.
