JOYCE VIRGINIA (HUTSON) MAY

Joyce Virginia May, age 82, went to her heavenly home on Monday, December 4, 2023.  She had been a Rhea County resident since 1953, and a member and attended Burdette Baptist Church in Birchwood, Tennessee.  She retired from Kayser-Roth Corporation, in Dayton, TN.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, loved God and her family unconditionally, and will be sadly missed by all. She enjoyed going to Pigeon Forge, visiting her daughter and family in Atlanta, meeting people, shopping, and talking.  Her favorite daughter was Tammy, and her favorite son was Bucky.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Violet Patton Hutson; brothers, James, Joe, and Lawrence Hutson; and sister, Ruby Naomi LeFuze.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Oscar Buchannen “Joe” May, Sr.; son, Oscar Buchannen “Bucky” May, Jr. and girlfriend, Michelle Simon; daughter, Tammy Lynette Garmany, of Acworth, GA; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be Dakota Garmany, Dustin May, Devin May, Nick Vanornum, Easton, May, and Briar Calbaugh.  Honorary Pallbearers are:  Taylea Garmany, Kelly May, Toni May, Chelsea Vanornum, and Tierney May.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Pastor David Evans officiating.  Interment will follow at Buttram cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 12:00 until the time of the service.
