Joan (Marler) Beene

 Joan Marler Beene, age 90, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Small Town Senior Living at Deer Ridge.  She was a life long resident of Rhea County and a member of Graysville Church of Christ.  Joan was a very giving and talented person who loved to help others.    She especially enjoyed working with the  children  as an elementary school aide and helping with the PTA.  Joan loved to sew and do needlework and was an excellent cook. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Thomas (Bud) Beene; parents, George Marler and Stella Sherrill; Brothers, Cosby and Sidney Marler, and step-father, Dexter Sherrill.

Joan is survived by daughters, Sheryl (David) Sanchez and Jayne (Gary) Marler; grandchildren, Jenny (Eric) Hegstrom, Lauren (John) Young, Annie (Joe) Grim and Leah Sanchez; and great grandchildren; Aidan, Lily, Josiah, Zoey, Caleb and Lukas, as well as several brothers- and sisters- in- law, nieces, nephews, cousins, beloved friends here and in New Zealand, and many “adopted”  children. 

The family would like to thank longtime home caregiver Doris Sims as well as the staff at Amedisys, Hearth Hospice and Small Town Senior Living/ Courtyard at Deer Ridge for their loving care and service. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday August 10, 2023 from 4-7PM at Coulter Garrison Funeral Home. 

There will be a private graveside service.
