John Robert Carter, Sr., age 83, passed away at Life Care of Rhea County on July 12, 2022. He was a lifelong resident of Rhea County. He was an avid softball coach, he loved bowling, construction, boating on his cruiser “Thomas Hutchins”, spending time with family and friends. John and his wife Frances built and started various businesses; Crystal Lanes Bowling Center in Dayton, Crystal Springs Driving Range, Crystal Springs Pool & Skate Center in Dayton, Crystal Springs Marine & Boat Salvage in Dayton, and Crystal Streams Water Park at Fall Creek Falls in Pikeville.
John is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Frances Roller Carter, daughter-in-law; Donna Faye Carter and grandson; Bradly Carter. He is survived by children; John (Luana) Carter, Toby (Debbie) Carter, Tony Carter, David (Christy) Carter, Dwayne (Amy) Roddy, brother-in-law; David Roller who he raised as his own, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
