Leland Rothwell Obituary

Leland Hobert Rothwell Jr., age 69, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on December 11, 1956, to Leland Hobert Rothwell Sr. and Willie Mae Jewell Rothwell.

He was a lifelong resident of the area and was of the Baptist faith. Leland proudly served in the United States Navy and later worked as a security trainer with the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Leland loved camping, fishing, hunting, and anything that allowed him to be outdoors. He always found peace in the woods. He was a generous man who would give you the shirt off his back. Simply put, he was a good old country boy and loved his Sequoyah family. Most of all, he loved his Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leland Hobert Rothwell Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Frank and Nola Fann Rothwell; and his maternal grandparents, Bill and Frances Curtin Jewell.

He is survived by his mother, Willie Mae Jewell Rothwell; his children, Crystal (Jeff) Rothwell Moser, and Jonah Rothwell, sisters Jackie (Nathan) Houston, Glenda (David) Robinson, and a brother Jody (Debbie) Rothwell; his grandchildren, Isaac (Shana) Rothwell, Blake Rothwell, and Peyton Rothwell; and his great-grandchildren, Branson Rothwell, Avery Rothwell, and Caleb Rothwell. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles, as well as nieces and nephews, and by cousins who were more than family—they were special friends.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Est  with military honors on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Summer City Cemetery, with Rev. Jimmy Jewell officiating.

A Celebration of Leland’s Life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM EST at the Community Baptist Church Family Life Center, located at 2525 Summer City Road, Pikeville, Tennessee.
