Martha Jane Secor, 93, passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2023, in Chattanooga, TN. She was born on March 19, 1930, in Johnson City, TN to the late Edgar Brown Morgan & Edith Lyle Morgan.
Martha Jane was a beloved mother and friend. She will be remembered for her kind heart and unwavering love for her family. She grew up in Dayton, TN and graduated from Rhea Central High School in 1948, having lettered all four years in basketball. She attended East Tennessee State College as a physical education major.
From 1958 to 1971 Martha Jane worked in the claims department for Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company. She was also a Girl Scout leader and served as make-up artist for the Centenary Players theatre group. In 1971 she began work with what was to become Aegon, USA, retiring in 1993 as Vice-President and Manager of Claims. She was a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church.
Martha Jane is survived by her son, Ambrose T. "Buck" Secor, III, his partner, Carol W. Deckard, his chosen daughter, Sara B. Salyer, along with two nieces and two nephews.
A private graveside service will be held to celebrate Martha Jane's life and honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
The family wishes to thank the reliable and caring support of Tonya Grays, the staff at Hospice of Chattanooga, Inc., including Guy Fain, MD, Nurse Brenda Wagner, CNA Pam Billingsley and all their substitutes, as well as all shifts of the Chattanooga Fire Department at Station #12.
Martha Jane will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Arrangements will be made by Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton, TN with burial in Buttram Cemetery.
