Margaret Helen (Brooks) Thurman (also known as Marg, Maggie and Nonnie) passed away March 30, 2023 in Etowah TN. from complications related to multiple medical issues. She was born on August 13, 1932, the youngest daughter of Rosa Daniels Brooks (d. 1989) and Clarence Brooks (d. 1950) in the Garrison Community just outside Dayton, TN, where she lived her entire life.
She was preceded in death (2009) by her husband, Clifford Lee Thurman, sisters Ruth Brooks, Virginia Katherine Brooks, and Virginia Jo (Brooks) Pendergrass and older brother, Charles Kenneth Brooks.
She is survived by a number of cousins, nieces and nephews who reside both near and far.
She worked at Kayser-Roth Hosiery Mill as a young woman and retired as the Nutrition Director at Rhea Richland Senior Center. She was a member of Garrison Baptist Church in Dayton. In her later years, Margaret enjoyed spending time with her friend Clifford, eating out and attending bluegrass and country music concerts at various local restaurants. She was firm in her beliefs, sometimes stubborn as the orneriest mule in Rhea County, and steadfast in support of her friends and family. Her fun-loving personality and generosity will be missed by those of us remaining.
A funeral service will be held at Coulter Garrison Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM . Interment will follow at Garrison Cemetery.
