Mary “Maxine” Walker, age 86, of Sale Creek, passed away at her residence on Thursday, March 19, 2026. She was born on April 19, 1939, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Mack and Cleo Hamill.
Maxine was a member of Bakewell Bible Church. She loved sewing and was a very talented self-taught seamstress. For many years, she worked in the sewing department at Wal-Mart. She also worked at Pro Sew, where she sold sewing machines and taught classes. Her sewing talents ranged from making clothes for her own family to sewing for family and friends. Later in life, she discovered another self-taught talent in painting. Her beautiful artwork, featuring farm scenes, flowers, and landscapes, hangs throughout her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred Walker; her son, Terry Walker; her daughter, Patricia Walker; her brother, Grady Hamill; and her granddaughter, Aimee Walker.
She is survived by her children, Roger (Nadine) Walker and Mike (Mary Ann) Walker, both of Dayton, Tennessee; her brother, Melvin (Ilse) Hamill of Dover, Delaware; grandchildren, Devin Walker, Mack Walker, Derrick Walker and Misti Walker; great-grandchildren, Terry (Ashley) Morgan, Nolan Walker, Eli Walker, Braylee Walker, Nikki Walker and Nevie Brock; great-great- grandchildren; Raven Ricketts, and Ruthie Brock, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home, with Steve Jones officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Burial will follow in McClendon Cemetery.
