Phyllis Lynn Cochran Taylor, 69, of Dayton, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, at Spring City Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Dayton on August 29, 1953, the daughter of the late Charles and Nora (Hill) Cochran. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Robert Lee (Bob) Taylor and her brother, Larry Cochran. She was of the Methodist faith.
Phyllis graduated from Rhea Central High School and later received her teaching degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens. She went on to teach in the Rhea County school system for over 29 years at both Graysville and Frazier Elementary. She loved teaching and touched the lives of many children through the years.
Phyllis lived for her children and grandchildren, as anyone who knew her could attest. Her classroom at Frazier Elementary School was filled with pictures of her two grandchildren. She loved to spend time with them and was proud to help guide them on their paths to their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was also their first teacher, working with them on all the things they would need to become successful students. She was always there for her children as well, giving them unconditional love and support.
Phyllis is survived by her two children, Angie (Jason) Pendergrass of Evensville and Charlie Taylor of Spring City; her two grandchildren, Reese and Rylan Pendergrass; her sister, Doylene (Corky) Bunch; her nephews, Jeremy (Alicia) Bunch, Chris (Candice) Bunch, and Jake Bunch; her niece, Stephanie (Mike) Brewer, as well as several great nieces and nephews.
The family is being cared for by Coulter Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive visitors on Saturday, March 25, from 5 PM – 8 PM. A funeral service officiated by Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald will be held on Sunday, March 26, at 3 PM. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the service. Interment will be at Buttram Cemetery.
