Ricky Joe “Shorty” Burgan, Sr., passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Dayton, TN. He was born June 13, 1958, to Lee and Hazel (Buchanan) Burgan, Jr., in Harlan, Kentucky. He moved to Dayton, TN, 39 years ago from Kentucky, where he married his wife of 18 years, Patricia (Moore) Burgan. He worked for many years as a coal miner in Kentucky and Tennessee, and he had a deep love for God, family, and gospel music.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Hazel (Saylor) Burgan, Jr.; stepfather, Anthony Saylor; sister, Cheryl Peterson; brother, Larry Lockhart.
Ricky is survived by his wife, Patricia Burgan; his son, Ricky Burgan, Jr. of Evensville, TN; brothers and sisters, Fred and Clair Lockhart, of Mooresburg, TN, Kenneth and Beverly Lockhart, of Winchester, VA, Sandy Rowe, of Middlesboro, KY, Wayne and Brenda Sizemore, of Corbin, KY, Karen Thornsbury, of Evensville, TN, Robin Grubbs, of Richmond, KY, Paul and Lisa White, of Evarts, KY; and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home, in Dayton, TN. Brothers Gary Furgerson and Orvin Childress will be officiating, with burial to follow at Spring City Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 11:00 – 2:00 PM.
