Sallie Mae Smith-Hyatte, 82, passed away May 23, 2020 at her home in Soddy Daisy, TN.
Sallie was a longtime resident of Bakewell Community. She was of Christian faith and a member of Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church in Bakewell. She served as Deaconess at Pleasant Hill, Sunday School Teacher, chairperson of Life Members, Stewardess and a member of Lay Council. She loved gardening, sewing, cooking and caring for her loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude W. Martin Sr. and Ada Ella Mary Sharp Martin; husbands, Thomas W. Smith (44 years) and Howard L. Hyatte and sons, Rev. Ronald T. Smith and Rev. Mark A. Smith Sr.
She is survived by her children, Rev. Thomas N. (Angela) Smith Sr., Teresa Ogilvie, Tara Blue, LaWanna (James) Willis; 3 sisters, 3 brothers, 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, aunts, uncles and lots of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A private family service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2020 in the Chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.
Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bakewell at 2:00pm Saturday, May 30, 2020.
