Shirley Mae (Bender) Jones

Shirley Mae Jones, age 80, passed away on May 2, 2026.Born in Michigan, Shirley was a resident of Dayton for 46 years and was of the Baptist faith. She was a strong woman—a true warrior—who carried a smile that touched everyone around her. Shirley found joy in sewing and creating quilts, leaving behind handmade treasures for those she loved. She also had a deep love for animals and enjoyed spending time fishing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick Bender and Wanetta (Dolly) Mae Bender; her brother, Robert A. Bender; and her sister, Evelyn Wolf.

Shirley is survived by her children: Melinda Phillips; Carrie Smith (Vern); Traci Knepper (Rob); Tammy Morris (Cory); and Claude Jerry Hickman (Jennifer). She is also survived by her sisters: Linda Bender, Susie Bailey, Betty Warner, and Dale Ripphinger; along with 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Shirley will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
