Silas Matthew Taylor was born December 12, 1932 and died March 12, 2019. He was born in Dayton TN to parents C.Z. and Viola Elizabeth Taylor. He died in Dayton TN.
Silas was a veteran of the Korean War, providing many stories and memories. He was a lifelong member of the Walden’s Ridge community and Walden’s Ridge Baptist Church. He loved his faith, his family and his friends and neighbors. He had great pride in being owner and proprietor of Neighborhood Grocery on Walden’s Ridge. Silas was also a proud lifetime farmer.
Silas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Zilla Sue Riggs Taylor. Also preceding him in death are sisters, Edna Headlee, Lefa Weller, Zella Olinger, Vida Sue Capps, Etta Marler, and Bernice Taylor, also brothers, Seburn Taylor, Ralph Taylor, Harvey Taylor, Willard Taylor and Wendell Taylor. Surviving is a sister, Betty Harris and Robert (Bob) Taylor.
Silas and Zilla Sue had three sons, Raymond Matthew Taylor of Daytona, Florida, Ronald O. Taylor and wife Leigh Ann Taylor and Donald O. Taylor and his wife Carol. Silas had six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, with two on the way.
A service will be held at Coulter Garrison in Dayton on Saturday, March 16. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 1:00 with funeral at 1:00 with Pastor Jerry Levengood officiating. Burial at Rhea Memory Gardens will follow.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be nephews and men of Walden’s Ridge Baptist Church and neighbors on Walden’s Ridge.
The family sends its greatest appreciation to the professionals of Life Care Center of Rhea County, both the assisted living facility and nursing home.
