Thelma "Tim" Jean (Potter) Davault

     Thelma, affectionately called Tim by family and close friends, left the loving arms of her son and daughter on July 7, at home in Dayton, Tennessee. She will be forever missed by daughter Tonya (Robert) Cranfill, son Shane Davault, sisters Elizabeth Woodard, Wanda Yother, and brother Phillip (Loretta) Potter, all of Dayton. Tim loved her grandchildren Moya Davault, Danika Davault, Lindsey Cranfill, and Hagen Cranfill; great grandchildren Rylie, Aubrey, and Camdyn Cranfill. She had a large extended family with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She had a close relationship all her life with nieces Cheryl Morgan and Joyce Johnson. Tim was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Della Dyer Potter; sisters Clara Wilson, and Neve Morgan, brothers Julian Potter and Carlos Potter.

     Tim was a graduate of Rhea Central High School, and worked for several manufacturing companies during her life... Kayser Roth, Roper, and Robinsons. She enjoyed her job with Home Health, and finally retired from her last job with Walmart. Tim spent many years taking care of her grandchildren. She was particularly close to Danika and Moya and rarely missed any event in their lives.

     Tim was born in Rhea County on September 12, 1944. She lived all her life in Dayton, but she was well-travelled. She so enjoyed the cruises with her sister, Elizabeth, and niece Becky Minchey. Tim loved road trips and never hesitated to join vacations with family to many locations across America. She took a road trip with good friend Betty Bean right before Covid to places (unknown to us) in Tennessee. Still on her bucket list was Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. She was a camper and enjoyed going to beaches or lakes. Her last trip was just in May 2023 when she went to Hilton Head, South Carolina with Tonya and her family. Her family never knew she was so sick.

     She attended Spivey Memorial United Methodist Church in Dayton all her life. She brought Danika and Moya to Sunday School and vacation bible school at Spivey when she was able. It was important to her that her girls know Jesus.

     Tim received the family gene that gave her a competitive nature to win at the card game progressive rummy, or the old marble board game her mother created many years ago. She loved Sunday afternoons at Joyce's house playing those favorite games with her, Wanda, Elizabeth, and Cheryl and having Sunday dinner. Yes, eating and playing is in the Potter genes. Her spare time was devoted to reading all sorts of novels, or doing word-search puzzles. Lastly, she enjoyed looking at recipes on Facebook and trying out new dinners on her son Shane and his girlfriend Jessica. Some were keepers and some not so much.

     Tim was a sweet person and had a good sense of humor. She loved to laugh, and we did a lot of that all our lives. She is missed by friends and family, but we know we will be together one day. Her six cats were the precious warm bodies she cherished. Molly, Kit Kat, Jasmine, Callie, Lily, and Sammy will miss the love she bestowed on them.

     The family thanks Hospice of Chattanooga for easing her pain and supporting all of the family in their loss.

     Services were held on Monday, July 10, at Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Ewing officiating. Internment was at Spivey Cemetery.
