Thomas Lee Matherly, age 24, passed from this life into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, March 24, 2025. He was born on June 23, 2000, to Earl and Susan Matherly of Dayton
Thomas had a lifelong love for reading, a passion that began when his sister taught him to read at the age of 3. In addition to exploring his own personal library, he spent much of his free time writing. He had already achieved the honor of having one of his stories published, and he was in the process of working on a novel. Thomas also enjoyed gaming, watching classic movies, and playing the saxophone. His love for music was a defining part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Wallace A. Hixson, and his paternal grandfather, Earl Matherly Jr.
Thomas leaves behind his loving parents, Earl and Susan Matherly; his sister, Rachel Matherly; his maternal grandmother, Brenda Hixson; his paternal grandmother, Eva Dean Matherly; aunts, uncles, cousins, and his devoted furry companion, Big Smoke.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 1:00PM in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Pastor Skip Mason officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM until the time of service.
"In lieu of flowers, please donate a book of your choice in memory of Thomas to your local library, or make a donation to Gideons International."
