Velma E (Shaver) Farley

Velma E. Shaver Farley, age 90, passed from this life on Monday, April 27, 2026, with her family by her side. She was born in Rhea County on September 26, 1935, to Hudson and Allie Housley Shaver.

Velma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed quilting, canning, gardening, and babysitting, and she had a special collection of thimbles and strawberry collectibles. Above all, Velma loved her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith, kindness, and love for those around her will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Farley; daughter, Margaret Scott; twin brother, Delma Shaver; brother, Olin Shaver; and sisters, Agnes Tollett, Mildred Rains, and Katherine Pegues.

She is survived by her son, Lynn (Lisa) Farley; daughters, Wanda (Ray) Roberts, Becky (Gary) Earles, and Jan (John) Tipton; son-in-law, Wayne Scott; brothers, Huddy Shaver, Troy  Shaver, Tom Shaver, and Marvin Shaver; sisters, Vivian Prevatte, Frances Marsh, Lorene Jewell, Shirley Bishop, and Doris Watson; grandchildren, Tim (Rachel) Roberts, Amy (Adam) McRorie, Jarrod (Bridgett) Roberts, Laura (Emery) Bryant, Sarah (PJ) Sawyer, Shauna (Matt) DeBord, Briana (Travis) Purser, John (Sallie) Tipton, and Jordon (Matt) Donlon.

Funeral services will be held on Friday May 1, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home, with Pastor Barry Walls officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Shaver Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church in Dayton, Tennessee, or to The Gideons.
